Susan Starbird Stout

Susan has always been a student of galleries and museums.  Her drawing and painting career began in 2001 after retiring from a 30 year career in the computer industry.  It is a delight to now have the time to pursue a long term personal goal and to follow in the footsteps of other successful artists in her family.  Susan prefers to work in acrylic, mixed media, collage, and photography.

She has participated in several juried shows in Atlanta, GA. and Melbourne, FL.  Susan has attended several courses at the Spruill Center for the Arts in Atlanta, Landscape Painting at J.C. Campbell Folk School, in North Carolina, Plein-air Painting at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlingburg, TN.  and classes with some of the best artists in Brevard County to include Dutch Master Frits van Eeden.

Susan's objective in art is to interpret in different ways, what her eyes see based on her medium (s) and on her life experiences, and to share this interpretation with others.  The hue, value, and texture of paint are very sensual to her and the act of composing and painting is completely absorbing.

It is not her objective to paint "realistically" for which she finds drawing and photography better suited, and to that end, have a digital gallery of thousands of personally created photographs.

Susan is married and has been a resident of Indian River Colony Club in Viera, FL since 2006.  Her extended family includes two daughters, three stepchildren, and eight grandchildren.
