In 2004, Peggy Nolan, Brevard Public Schools’ K-12 Art and Drama Resource Teacher, was asked to assemble a committee to create an awards program that would identify, recognize and promote quality visual arts programs in Brevard Public Schools (BPS). The intention of this award was to acknowledge art programs of excellence that have a balanced relationship between the total student population and cultural diversity, high performance, curriculum integration, community outreach and address the Sunshine Standards for Art in exemplary ways. With sponsorship from the Brevard Cultural Alliance, the awards program was named the Brevard Cultural Alliance Excellence in Visual Arts Award (EVA).
