Beginning Pottery: Clay Slab Box
Join us at the Studios of Cocoa Beach where Glaucia Romano is teaching a beginning pottery class, “Make a Box from Clay Slabs” on Friday, January 12 from 6pm to 8:30 pm. By rolling clay into a flat slab and cutting and piecing it together, you can create a box of your own choosing. It can be anything from a jewelry box to a recipe card box, playing card box, or more! Decorate it by adding your choice of textures and ornamental handles, or make it simple and plain. Your imagination is the guiding force behind this project!
After your work is finished, Glaucia will fire it and you can pick it up at the Studio in about a week. If you wish you can add a colorful glaze by signing up for the “Glazing Workshop” on January 19.
Fee for the class is $65 which includes clay and all needed supplies. Feel free to bring any texture plates and reference photos you’d like to use for your artwork. The “Glazing Workshop” costs $25 for the glazes and a second firing. Details and registration for both classes is on the Studios website: www.studiosofcocoabeach.org.
Classes meet at Studios of Cocoa Beach, 165 Minutemen Causeway in Downtown Cocoa Beach. The gallery is open Monday 9 am to 2 pm, Tuesday to Saturday 9 am to 7 pm and Sunday 1 to 6 pm. Visit the website for information on this non-profit artist co-op, events, artist portfolios and all classes.
