Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents…
April 23, 2022 | 7:00pm | Eau Gallie High School
Travel coast to coast with your Space Coast Symphony Orchestra in a gripping program that celebrates the beauty, power, and mystery of nature. SCSO Principal Trombonist, Alexis Regazzi joins the orchestra to perform the virtuosic showpiece, Blue Bells of Scotland. Alan Hovhaness’ symphonic poem, And God Created Great Whales, uses aleatoric sections, pentatonic melodies, and whale sounds to create a piece that captures the epic scope of giant whales in the ocean, the ruthless chaos and majestic beauty of nature, and humanity’s impact on the natural world. The rousing program features two world premieres, from composers R. Michael Daugherty and Christopher Marshall. Sopranos Mary Anne Kruger and Amy Cofield return to the stage together to present Marhsall’s evocative, “Canco Del Mar.” Sean Sexton, Vero Beach’s Poet Laureate will narrate R. Michael Daugherty’s A Florida Story, “A Celebration of Vero Beach,” telling the love story of W.E Sexton and his bride Elsebeth in a narrative describing Florida one hundred years in the past and life in a small frontier town. The program is rounded out with Arnold Bax’s powerful symphonic tone poem, Tintagel. The work was inspired by a visit Bax made to Tintagel Castle in Cornwall in 1917, and draws on the history and mythology associated with the castle.
