Description
Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women. Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, Zonta takes its name from the Lakota-Sioux Native American word meaning "honest and trustworthy." Zontians volunteer their time, talents and energy to local and international service projects designed to advance the status of women. Individual Zonta clubs extend membership invitations to local leaders in business and the professions. The Zonta Club of Melbourne Area was chartered on December 1, 1983. Melbourne's Zontians opened their ears and hearts to the needs of the community. This caring attitude is reflected in its many service projects. Members attend meetings monthly to coordinate community projects and fundraising activities.
The Zonta Club of Melbourne and Zonta International is focused on advancing the status of women globally, nationally and locally.
