Biography

As far back as she can remember, Linda’s passions were sewing and art. She learned to sew at age five. She studied art and fashion in college and chose a career in visual merchandising which morphed into the newspaper trade where she worked as a graphic designer. In 1984 she established her own business, Bright Ideas Studio, and ran it successfully for more than 20 years. She then diversified into fiber arts, teaching, and creating textile-based works including art quilts, soft- sculptured art dolls, wearables, and accessories.

Linda is a member of Florida’s Brevard Cultural Alliance and taught with their Artist Residency Programs, as well as independently throughout the county. She is a member of the Dirty Dozen Fiber Artists, Seams Unique Fiber Artists, and Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA). Her works have won several local gallery awards and have been published nationally.

“My works are spontaneous, letting the fabric, medium and process inspire and lead me to the finished creations. I prefer contemporary compositions over narrative works, but occasionally diversify, using family photos to tell a story. Bringing new life to old textiles is where I find joy. I pride myself on a “zero-waste” mentality, striving to use what I have on hand or what is gifted to me or discovered in thrift stores. The challenge of upcycling inspires my creativity. A piece of repurposed fabric is a blank canvas begging to be layered with surface design techniques, then finished off with hand or machine stitching. I’m happy to know I’ve added art to the world without adding to our overcrowded landfills.”
