Description
Our mission is... to promote the beauty of watercolor painting and enrich the quality of life in our community through workshops, education and exhibitions. Brevard Watercolor Society was established in 1995. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, sponsored in part by the Brevard Board of County Commissioners, through the Brevard Cultural Alliance, Inc. It has a current membership of almost 200 members. The watercolor society, its members and volunteers, are dedicated to promoting the beauty of watercolor painting and enriching the quality of life in our community through workshops, education, and exhibitions.
BWS frequently partners with other organizations to display themed watercolor exhibits and shows. Previous exhibits have included Watercolors of Olde Brevard which showcased the history of Brevard County, and Celebration of 40 Years of the Kennedy Space Center which highlighted NASA's flight into space, using their photos as reference material. Flora & Fauna at the Refuge, now starting its 10th season at the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, is a show featuring Florida fauna and wildlife. Postcards From Home, a collection of 230 original postcards, consists of original watercolor paintings by members of BWS and showcases the best talent Brevard County, Florida has to offer. The large 6-panel display has been on exhibit throughout Brevard County and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida. The Postcards from Home panels are now on display at the Wickham Park Senior Center, Melbourne, Florida.
BWS also partners with Brevard County Schools in their Bringing Watercolors to Schools program. Approximately 29 schools and BWS volunteer artists participate in the program each year. BWS members also collect donated art supplies to help support this program along with grant funding provided by the Brevard Cultural Alliance.
